Dr Staples attended Colfeā€™s School in South East London before going up to read Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Magdalen College Oxford. Whilst there he researched at both the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital and the University Dept. of Pharmacology, which persuaded him to read for a medical degree. During his finals year as a biochemist he simultaneously read for his 1st BM and to date is the only person to have sat public examinations in two separate degrees simultaneously at Magdalen in its five hundred year history.
